Your excess can include different amounts, depending on how your policy is set up. Here’s a simple breakdown of each type of excess.
An excess is the payment you make towards the cost of a claim.
There are usually two types of excess:
If you make a claim, the total excess is taken from your claims settlement pay-out.
Sometimes, you may need to pay this amount up front to repair your car.
A compulsory excess is a fixed amount set by your insurer.
You must pay this amount if you make a claim, and it can't be changed.
It's calculated using factors like
A voluntary excess is an optional amount you choose to add on top of the compulsory excess.
By choosing a higher voluntary excess, you can lower your insurance premium - because you agree to pay more upfront if you make a claim
With Excess Protect Cover, you can claim back your excess after a settled claim where no recovery can be made from a third party, within six months.
This includes claims for:
You can use this cover even if you were at fault.
